Adam is a co-founder of Substance a leading research company based in Manchester specialising in sport, community and social impact. Substance helps organisations that do good think smarter using research and technology to produce insight to help them do what they do better.
Adam is a leading figure in the sport and community ownership field and sports governance. He has contributed widely to the development of policy and practice in this area, working regularly with Sport England and Supporters Direct among others.
Outside of Substance Adam was a founding Board Member of FC United of Manchester, an award-winning supporter owned football club, for 11 years. On the board he led the development of the club’s Broadhurst Park stadium and community facility in Moston, North Manchester that opened in 2015.
Adam also leads Substance’s research on outdoor recreation and volunteering, undertaking projects for the RNLI over a number of years. He has extensive research and policy experience in sport and popular culture – formerly as Senior Research Fellow at the Manchester Institute for Popular Culture, MMU; and as a member of the Government Football Task Force. He was a trustee of Cornerhouse, Manchester for over a decade.
